Hey guys!! So, today I wanted to talk about housing because its probably the first thing you come to know when you arrive in Sweden. The picture above is where I now call home for the next four months ππΌ. Its now week 2, and I have had the time to explore whats around my apartment building, and I can honestly say that I am so grateful to be living here. Since I would somehow label myself as more independent, I knew that living in an apartment style home was the best option for me.

What I love most about this housing option is that we all share a communal kitchen, with both DIS students and Swedish students, and its a great way to get to know people! Everyone has a labeled place in the fridge and a place to store snacks as well, so everything is very organized. Also, every Thursday night we are going to start having family dinners together where one or two of the students make the dinner for everyone. I haven’t experienced this yet, but I know its going to be a great way to get to know everyone even more!
What you can’t see from these pictures, are everything thats around my apartment building, and let me just say that its BEAUTIFULπ€. I am someone who enjoys the little things, such as being outdoors when I have free time and going to places that have lots of nature. Arsta, Sweden, where my apartment is located, has just that.

I went on a run the other day πββοΈ, because I was told that theres a path you can run on right by the water. So I tried it out, I went down on this path and discovered a place that I now go to every single day. There’s not only a path right by the water, but also a dock that you can go out to to lay on, or swim! Theres also an outdoor gym right by it. A lot of the time, I go during sunset time which looks a lot like the picture above, and it is so beautiful. If I didn’t choose Studentboende, I would have never discovered this so I am very happy with my housing choice!
Even though the Studentboende housing option was right for me, it might not be for you. Maybe you want to be in a homestay living with the locals, or maybe you want to be in the residential community. One thing is certain, there is a place for everyone here and there is no wrong choice because you will gain something so special through whichever housing that you choose. It hasn’t even been a full two weeks, and I can already say that I know so much more than I did before I got here. Only a week and a half, and I already feel that this has been a transformative experience, I have learned so much! I won’t lie there have been many challenges so far as to how to balance getting school work done, getting to know the city, and establishing a routine for myself. And there is no shame in feeling anxious and stressed about all of these things, I certainly have. Everything is new and a lot to take in, but its all part of the fun, and I know the hard work is going to pay off.
In the mean time, heres a pic of me having a fun time with all my new friends π
Till Next Time,
Val
